PART 1 Why is it that some parts of the world seem to be experiencing an open heaven characterised by undeniable outpouring of the power of God, while other parts appear to be experiencing a spiritual drought? Evangelistic campaigns in various places in Africa and Asia are experiencing thousands and thousands of people being saved, delivered and healed in a single meeting, yet other parts like Western Europe nothing much seems to be happening?

God can withhold rain from some people yet release a mighty outpouring to others. Amos 4:7 says God “would send rain on one city, on another city he would withhold the rain. One piece of ground would be rained on, while the part not rained on would dry up. The city without rain would have no harvest.” In other words, NO RAIN NO HARVEST.

Rain represents the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and an open heaven. This is what Prophet Isaiah prophesied: “I will pour out water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground, I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and My blessing on your descendants.” (Isaiah 44:3).

Rain means life, recovery, restoration, the rivers will run again, fish will be caught again, the crops will grow again, there will be joy where there has been sorrow, there will be laughter where there has been weeping.

The early rain revived the parched and thirsty soil and prepared it for the seed. The latter rain came before the harvest and contributed to maturation and ripening of the crop. These seasons ensured that God’s people gather in the grain, the wine and the oil. These three represent spiritual nourishment, revival and refreshment and the anointing.

God has promised to give us rain – outpouring of the Holy Spirit – in the right seasons. “He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, that you may gather in your grain and your wine and your oil,” (Deut 11:14).

The Scriptures exhort us to pray for an outpouring as well. “Ask rain from the Lord at the time of the latter rain. The Lord who makes the clouds will give you showers of rain and vegetation in the field to each man,” (Zec 10:1).

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes; Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace, which was given me by the working of his power." (Romans 1:16; Ephesians 3:7)
